The Franciscans of Mary are a Private Association of the Faithful of Pontifical Right, founded in 1988 by Fr. Santiago Martín in Madrid, Spain. Since then, they have spread nationally and internationally, and their mission is to live and spread the spirituality of gratitude.
The Franciscans of Mary are currently present in 27 countries on three continents. They also have a significant presence in the Americas, where the "schools of gratitude" are open and active in every nation, from Canada to Chile, except for some of the smallest Caribbean islands.
The spirituality of gratitude is the heart of the Gospel, what God expects and has the right to find in the heart of a Christian. It is lived through the imitation of the Blessed Virgin and Saint Francis of Assisi: imitating Mary in her availability, in her divine motherhood through the practice of unity, and in her service to Christ crucified; imitating Saint Francis in his poverty, in his grateful love for God, and in his complete fidelity to the Church and very especially to the Pope.
The Franciscans of Mary are organized on two levels: the laity and the consecrated. Each has a different structure and commitments, though all share the same vocation: to love and to make Love loved, God who is Love.
